12-year-old killed in West Jordan rollover identified

WEST JORDAN — A 12-year-old boy died and his 16-year-old brother was hospitalized in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash at 9000 S. Mountain View Corridor on Friday, according to West Jordan police.

The boy was identified by West Jordan police on Saturday morning as Miles Moffat.

Officers received calls reporting a rollover crash about 12:10 p.m. Witnesses told police that a lawn care truck with nonhazardous liquid chemicals was heading north and a full-size pickup truck with a 16-year-old male driver and his 12-year-old brother were heading east, said West Jordan police detective Scott List.

The two vehicles collided, killing 12-year-old Miles Moffat on impact.

The 16-year-old driver was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition but has since stabilized, according to List. The 25-year-old driver of the lawn car truck was taken to Jordan Valley Hospital and was also stable.

Police were investigating the circumstances that led to the collision. Additional information has not yet been released.
