2 dead, 1 in critical condition after crash near Brigham City

BRIGHAM CITY — Two people died and one is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries after a crash near Brigham City on Tuesday.

According to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Chris Bishop, at about 5 p.m. a car was traveling southbound on I-15 near Brigham City. A truck pulling a camper trailer ahead of the car blew a tire, causing the car to swerve to miss the debris. Bishop said that the car then lost control, left the roadway and struck a pole on the driver’s side.

The driver of the car died in the crash. A female passenger in the front seat was taken to the hospital where she later died of her injuries, said Bishop. A passenger in the rear seat was flown to a hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, according to Bishop.

I-15 was closed following the crash to land medical helicopters and complete the investigation, Bishop said. The highway has since reopened.

The identities of those involved was not released.
