Authorities safely rescue 13 puppies after rollover crash in Price

PRICE — Authorities safely rescued 13 puppies early Friday morning after the cargo van they were being transported in crashed and rolled over on U.S. Highway 6.

The crash took place about 2 a.m. on Highway 6 just west of Price, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Bret Bennett.

Two people were transporting about 13 puppies from Texas to Oregon in a cargo van, Bennett said. Investigators believe the woman driving may have been fatigued when the van went through a fence and off the road for about 200 feet, he added.

The van then went up an embankment and rolled onto its side, Bennett said.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Castleview Hospital, less than a mile away from the crash site, Bennett added.

None of the puppies, which had all been adopted, were injured, he said. The puppies were taken to the Carbon County Animal Shelter, where they will be housed until the handlers are able to pick them up, Bennett added.
