BOUNTIFUL — A man was shot early Tuesday after confronting two people who were trying to break into his car, police say. The incident was captured on video.

About 4:15 a.m. Bountiful police responded to a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot. The man walked outside his house and confronted two people who he believed were trying to break into his car.

One of the people then opened fire with a handgun when confronted by the man and he was hit him in the leg, police said. The suspects are described as men in their early 20s who fled in a dark-colored sedan and have not been located. The only description Bountiful police provided of the neighborhood was “in the area of 2700 South.”

The man was taken to University of Utah Hospital with injuries that weren’t considered to be life-threatening, according to Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Dave Edwards.

Later in the day, police posted doorbell camera video of the men and the shooting on the Bountiful CityPD YouTube channel. The video recorded eight gunshots that were fired as the victim ran back into his house.
