Church of Jesus Christ rededicates Frankfurt temple in Germany

(KUTV) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has rededicated one of its temples in Germany.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelves Apostles – a German native – was invited by Church President Russell M. Nelson to rededicate the faith’s temple in Frankfurt on Sunday.

He was accompanied by Elder Patrick Kearon of the Presidency of the Seventy and three members of area presidency.

The rededication took place at the temple on Sunday with a youth devotional that occurred the day before in a nearby meetinghouse.

Originally dedicated back in August 1987, the Frankfurt temple closed in 2015 to accommodate a renovation and enlargement of the temple, including a new underground baptistry, according to the Church. It was originally the fifth temple built in Europe and the second built in the current boundaries of Germany – the first of being which the Freiberg temple.

Care for the temple was taken to preserve key historical features of the temple’s exterior. New trees and shrubs were added to the landscape to complement the existing plantings on the temple grounds and to harmonize with vegetation generally found in the Friedrichsdorf area of the country, according to the Church.

The Frankfurt temple will mainly serve members of the faith in West Germany, Austria, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. According to the Church, there are over 35,000 Latter-day Saints in Germany with 152 congregations.
