Expect delays on eastbound I-80 in Tooele County; weather affecting Utah traffic

GRANTSVILLE — The right lane is closed on eastbound I-80 between Delle and Grantsville in Tooele County, officials said, leading to heavy delays in the area.

The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted earlier Saturday evening that the highway was closed in the area, but said in a 7:36 update that only the right lane was closed due to an accident and that the wreck is expected to be cleared by 8 p.m.

Hours earlier, UDOT said “high-profile” vehicles were prohibited from driving on I-80 in Tooele County due to high winds in the area. The I-80 delays are just one example of weather-related traffic disruptions in Utah on Saturday night, as officials also reported a crash on westbound I-70 in Grand County and traction rules were applied to vehicles in the Cottonwood Canyons because of snowfall at the higher elevations.

This weekend is bringing much-needed precipitation, both rain and snow, to large parts of the state.
