HURRICANE, Washington County — Police in Hurricane are looking for a vehicle they say struck a man on State Street and then kept driving.

The incident began when police were dispatched to a welfare check at 1:18 a.m., according to a news release. Officers were told a man, later identified as a 22-year-old Hurricane resident, was in the roadway acting strangely near 500 N. State St., and had almost been hit by a car.

While responders were on the way, the man was struck by a southbound vehicle that did not stop or return to the scene.

Officers attempted lifesaving measures when they arrived. The man was transported to the hospital, but was pronounced dead there.

The vehicle that hit the man was described as a light-colored truck or SUV. Anyone with information about the incident can contact dispatchers at 435-627-4999.
