Man leads police on chase, crashes car after attempted traffic stop

WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing his car, police said.

A West Valley City police officer saw a car that was believed to be involved in an aggravated robbery on Saturday, Sgt. Aaron Cheshire said. After the vehicle pulled into a gas station, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the man fled in the vehicle.

A pursuit followed but was called off due to high speeds, Cheshire said. Unified police located the car on southbound I-215 and began their own chase. Officers lost track of the vehicle but later found it after the driver had an accident and left the vehicle near 5604 South and 1300 West.

Unified police officers later found the man walking near 600 S. Redwood and arrested him, Cheshire said. Police also took a female passenger into custody, he added.

Additional information is currently not available.
