SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say targeted young women who were alone was arrested Thursday for allegedly attempting to carjack three vehicles.

Oscar Jimenez, 35, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of aggravated robbery, disorderly conduct and giving false identification to police.

A woman was going to a store near 600 East and 400 South when she was pushed by Jimenez just as she stepped out of her car, according to a police booking affidavit. The woman said she had to fight off Jimenez to prevent him from taking her vehicle. Several other people saw what was happening and called 911.

Jimenez then attempted to carjack two other women, the affidavit states.

“(Jimenez) appears to be a danger to society because he used force on multiple women in an attempt to rob them. Witnesses stated he targeted specifically young women,” police wrote in the arrest report.

Salt Lake police caution all women who are by themselves to always be aware of their surroundings. For example, instead of looking at a phone while walking to and from a store, look up. If a woman feels like someone is getting too close or following them to their car, that person can go back into the store for help, according to police.
